History

The Hibiscus Junior Cricket Club was started in 1982 by Burnie Jones and Peter Mills.  Burnie's son, Evan, had played for Takapuna the previous year and won a trophy. Peter's sons, Jason and Cameron, had also shown an interest in playing so the two men decided to put an 'ad' in the local paper to see if there were any boys, between the ages of eight and thirteen, who would like to play cricket. Those interested were invited to come to Orewa College.

About seventy to eighty children turned up, including some older boys. They played in teams amongst themselves until Christmas.

After Christmas, the older boys played in a North Shore U15 Subsidiary League, formed by the Auckland Cricket Association (ACA) to give these boys some competition.  This was a social league. The club also entered a team in the North Harbour Competition for Form 1 and 2 boys (Year 7 and 8). This team played in the A league and were unbeaten for two years.

At the AGM at the beginning of the 1986/87 season 'junior' was dropped from the club name and it formally became Hibiscus Coast Cricket Club. Many of the original members were no longer at school but wanted to continue to play for the club. HCCC now catered for senior grades as well as primary and secondary school grades.  Junior primary grades played cricket at Stanmore Bay on Saturday mornings. Players in Std 3 to Form 2 (Years 5-8) played in the North Harbour Competition and secondary school and senior grades played in the ACA Competition which involved clubs from all over the Auckland area and the North Shore.
